Congratulations to the Mayor and Council Members on becoming Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Officials

University of North Alabama’s Center for Learning and Professional Development recently Certified Local Officials from the City of Calera through the Alabama Planning Institute Program.  Each member of the following boards received their certification: The Mayor and Council, The Planning Commission, and the Zoning Board of Adjustments.

Lavonne Gatlin, CAPZO program coordinator, said that “Alabama is one of only two states in the nation to offer certification for planning commissioners and board of zoning adjustment members.” Each local official completed the prescribed series of six seminars and workshops that focus on the essential skills and knowledge to be an effective Planning Commissioner or Member of the Zoning Board of Adjustments. This certification gives evidence to the community that local officials have gained the knowledge and skills needed to serve most effectively in their appointed position.

The University of North Alabama Office of Continuing Studies and Outreach would like to congratulate the following members: Mayor Jon G. Graham, Council Member Philip Busby, Council Member Kenny Dale Cost, Council Member Ernest Montgomery, Council Member Calvin Morgan, Council Member Kay Snowden Turner, Council Member Alan Watts on becoming a “Certified Alabama Planning and Zoning Official” on January 19, 2023.
